Mirny is a town in Russia's Sakha Republic (Yakutia), located 820 kilometers west of Yakutsk on the Irelyakh River. The town's population is around 40,000. The settlement was founded in 1955 after the discovery of a nearby kimberlite pipe. There is a massive diamond pit in the town. It is 525 meters deep and has a diameter of 1.25 kilometers.
