Arundhati Roy accused of sedition

Media_httpimgurcomxfd_hgvxq

Indian police may press sedition charges against author and activist Arundhati Roy. She has given speeches in recent days in favor of Kashmiri separatism, the Times of India reports. Roy had said "Kashmir has never been an integral part of India. It is a historical fact. Even the Indian government has accepted this." Some Indian politicians are now demanding that Roy be arrested and tried.

Roy, a Booker Prize winning author, issued a statement from Kashmir condemning what she calls India's brutal military occupation: "Pity the nation that has to silence its writers for speaking their minds. Pity the nation that needs to jail those who ask for justice, while communal killers, mass murderers, corporate scamsters, looters, rapists, and those who prey on the poorest of the poor, roam free."
