Madoff's Immoral Fabric
The latest craze sweeping Wall Street is a range of iPad cases fashioned from the wardrobe of convicted fraudster Bernie Madoff. Entrepreneur, John Vaccaro bought up most of Madoff's wardrobe at a US Marshals auction of his assets last year, then had them redesigned as iPad covers that sell for between $350-$500 on his website, Frederick James.

The Daily: Indexed
News Corp's The Daily is publishing free, web-based versions to every article. Without an index, however, it is very inconvenient to find or link to individual articles from the web. And since the iPad app appears to only carry today's edition, it makes finding any historical articles you have paid for nearly impossible. So I went ahead and made one for them! Introducing, The Daily: Indexed...

Marvell Moby $100 Full-HD Tablet
Chip maker Marvell wants to get into the tablet business and it is showing a prototype that will offer web access and high-definition content at a price that would beat the competition by a wide margin. The Moby tablet will be powered by Marvell’s processors, which can offer gigahertz-class speed. The device will also have 1080p full-HD capability, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS connectivity and FM radio. The $100 Moby will support full Adobe Flash and could run either Android or the Windows Phone 7 operating system. While just a reference design at this point, the Moby will be available by the end of the year.

Neofonie WePad 11.6" Android Tablet
The Neofonie WePad has a bigger multitouch screen and a faster CPU than the iPad. Also, it runs Flash, has USB ports, an inbuilt card reader, and expandable memory. Additionally, it allows complete multitasking and has a webcam. The WePad is set to arrive sooner to German stores than its Apple counterpart and will be significantly cheaper than the iPad, says Neofonie CEO Helmut Hoffer von Ankershoffen. Preorders and deliveries are planned for next month. The choice of OS sounds weird: a Linux derivate with Android on top. That is Linux with Linux inside, which makes it possible to install apps from the Android Market as well as special Adobe Air software from Neofonie.

"Sterile world of sealed aluminium"
In mobile land, closed carrier heritage combined with Apple's product vectors may leave us with only closed options. A confluence of interests -- commercial (get your non-pirated content only from me!), governmental (cyber defense!), and user (I want to be safe!) -- will find that outcome attractive. Our generative and hacker-friendly world will be replaced by a sterile world of sealed aluminum.

Apple now owns and controls their own mobile CPUs. From what I saw, Apple does not just own and control a mobile CPU, they own and control the hands-down best mobile CPU in the world. [...] They are Microsoft and Intel rolled into one when it comes to mobile computing. [...] They are taking over as the strongest and best company in the whole ones-and-zeroes racket.
